Why choose rackmount server?
Would you like to free up some space by consolidating multiple machines into a rackmount?
A rack mount is a great way to maximize your shelf space by packing a lot of servers into
a small space. Rackmount servers are typically easier for administrators to manage
due to proximity, modularity and better cable management. Lockable rack cabinet's doors
and steel server front panels provides additional level of physical security. Industry standard 19-inch
racks will allow you easily expand your business up without taking up more valuable floor space.
Do all rackmount servers overheat?
Contrary to a common misperception, well designed Rackmount Servers are durable and extremely well cooled.
It is true that modern CPUs produce more heat than ever before. For example, new Intel's Prescott (90-nm) P4 is running 30% hotter than its Northwood (130-nm) predecessor working at the same speed.
In fact, 3.4-GHz Prescott generates as much heat as 100-watt light bulb. Moreover, the heat issue is not
only due to the processor, but other server components like motherboard's chipset (north bridge), VGA processor,
hard drives, and power supply are also responsible for heating. The actual temperature inside the server is
determined by all the heat producing components, cooling mechanisms, and the environment. Overheating is certainly
a concern but, it is not an unresolvable problem. In fact, choosing right components and implementing proper server
design allows to avoid server overheating. At ABMX you can be assured that our experienced engineers will
provide you with adequate solutions to ensure proper thermal design and to prevent overheating even
inside the cramped 1U rackmount servers. |
